How RideShare Angel Started
I drive Uber/Lyft in the Tri-Cities. Every day, I meet the heartbeat of our community—CNAs, dishwashers, housekeepers, restaurant workers. These are the people caring for our parents, serving our meals, and keeping businesses running.
And they're struggling.
Many spend $150+ weekly on Uber rides—nearly a third of their minimum wage pay—just to get to work. I watched riders count change, skip meals, worry about tomorrow's shift.
I started using my tip money to buy $15 Uber/Lyft gift cards. When I picked up someone struggling with transportation costs, I'd hand them a card at the end of the ride. Their reactions changed me. Tears. Disbelief. "Nobody has ever helped me like this."
One nurse aide told me she'd been choosing between Uber rides and groceries. A dishwasher said the card got him through the week when his car broke down. A housekeeper cried and asked if I was an angel.
That's when I knew this needed to be bigger.
Uber Angel was born—a grassroots movement to help essential workers afford the transportation they need to keep our community running. We're keeping it simple: face-to-face giving by trusted drivers, zero bureaucracy, 100% of donations directly to workers.
Join us in lifting up the people who lift up our community.
